Montgomery Township officials and volunteers gathered Sunday afternoon in Montgomeryville to host the traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall, offering public thanks to veterans and their families and preparing the display for its next stop.
Audrey, identified in the transcript as chairwoman, opened the remarks by addressing veterans directly: "I just wanna say thank you to all of our veterans, first and foremost for your service," she said, and thanked volunteers and families for sharing stories and helping run the event. Audrey also thanked the Vietnam Veteran Memorial Fund for allowing the township to host the display.
Township manager Carolyn Kirk spoke next after being introduced, calling the experience "an honor and a privilege" and commending staff and volunteers for their work and flexibility. "First and foremost, Vietnam veterans, welcome home," Kirk said, and noted that volunteers who assembled the wall will take responsibility for its removal at 2 p.m.
Retired Chief William Weidman led a prayer honoring those who served and asked that attendees remember "those who laid down their lives for the freedom of others." He prayed for guidance to honor veterans "not just in word, but in action."
Organizers and township officials repeatedly thanked specific volunteers and staff, including references to individuals named Sandy, Cali and Kathy Miller, for logistical support, overnight shifts and coordination. A staff member indicated that Sarah would take over at the conclusion of the remarks to manage final details.
The gathering combined ceremonial remarks, personal remembrances from veterans and logistical planning for the takedown and transport of the traveling memorial. Volunteers will bring down the display at 2 p.m. before it continues its tour.
