Lakota board to review list of organizations eligible for board‑paid event attendance

Board members reviewed a resolution and handout governing which community events the district may pay for board-member attendance. One board member summarized the list’s original purpose: historically, board members were buying tickets out of pocket and the district created a 'board service fund' to cover attendance at events deemed to serve a public purpose. Another participant noted that some organizations on the list have not held payable events recently, and that the board should avoid a catchall list of every nonprofit in the area.

Members agreed on a two-step next effort: staff will retrieve the list’s revision history and recent expenditure data, and the board will develop transparent criteria (for example, student focus, frequency of event, representation by staff) to evaluate whether organizations remain on the authorized list. No formal change was voted at the retreat; the item was sent for follow-up.
