Stephenson County’s board approved a federally funded reconstruction resolution for Cedarville Road and authorized the purchase of a snow-plow cab-and-chassis truck from Truck Country of Iowa under a Sourcewell cooperative purchase.
Public works reported the Cedarville Road project (HD 6-3) is a full-depth reclamation covering 6.64 miles and will be paid 100% with a federal local project grant awarded in 2024. "It is being fully funded 100% by the federal, from federal, funding back in 2024 local project funding grant," a committee member said. The board approved the resolution unanimously.
The board also approved HD 2,604 to purchase a cab-and-chassis snow-plow truck through Sourcewell; the bid was awarded to Truck Country of Iowa for $134,009.06. Committee members discussed procurement via Sourcewell (a cooperative purchasing method) and noted state bids had not been advantageous for this equipment and lead times may extend to the end of the year. "Sourcewell is a method of purchasing... It's a joint purchase agreement," a presenter said.
Why it matters: The road reclamation is a major maintenance project for county infrastructure, fully funded by a federal grant; the truck purchase replaces aging equipment and supports winter operations but comes with long delivery estimates.
Next steps: The county will proceed with the federally funded road project and will accept the Sourcewell purchase, then manage equipment delivery timelines and declare surplus when the old truck is ready for disposal or sale.
