Senate advises and consents to special-order executive nominations; appointments office highlights 292 "green bag" names

The Maryland Senate advised and consented to the administration's special-ordered nominations on report number 2 after a roll-call vote. The president announced, "With 38 votes in the affirmative, the senate advises and consents affirmatively to the nominations of the executive on report number 2."

Madam Secretary from the appointments office presented the governor's "green bag," saying, "This year's green bag includes 292 appointments to senate confirmable boards and commissions," and noted the pool includes leaders from all 24 jurisdictions. The secretary added the appointments office manages more than 650 boards and commissions and has facilitated over 4,600 appointments since the start of the administration.

The nominations were special-ordered to be heard in open session and were referred earlier to the executive nominations committee for vetting. Committee leadership confirmed that no senators requested separations on the floor before the roll was called; the clerk then conducted the recorded vote.

The confirmations fill seats on a range of state boards and commissions; the appointments office said more than half of nominees are women and nearly half are people of color. The president asked senators to review the full list and signaled that the desk was clear for the week following confirmation.

The Senate recessed after completing floor work and will continue committee business as scheduled.
