The Montgomery City Zoning Board deferred consideration of a special exception for a sand-and-gravel mining operation requested by Gentlemen's Club LLC at 4120 Old Wetumpka Highway, asking the applicant to provide additional technical information and to meet with neighbors.
Applicant Ray (speaker identified in record) told the board he planned a small operation he described partly as a means to finance building a private fish pond. Neighbors, represented by Keith Cantley, said the property lies within a previously platted 15‑lot subdivision intended for rural residential use and warned that bringing heavy truck traffic and daily industrial activity would disrupt the neighborhood.
Board members agreed the applicant and neighbors had not had an opportunity to meet and that additional technical information was needed before action. The board voted to delay the item to a future meeting and asked the petitioner to provide: a map showing proposed mining locations and timing, estimates of how much sand and gravel exist and how long extraction would take, documentation on setbacks from the river or other protected features (corps/engineering input), and details on truck routing and hours of operation. The delay was intended to give the parties time to meet and for staff to obtain any necessary engineering or corps guidance.
