Grant County awards $1.35 million contract to Milestone Contractors for two bridge replacements

Grant County Commissioners voted Feb. 17 to award Milestone Contractors a $1,346,233.62 contract to replace two county bridges, county highway staff said.

The projects cover Bridge No. 138 on 1100 South and Bridge 102 on 800 South. Highway staff opened bids for both projects as a combined package and reported the combined totals from bidders: Duncan Robertson $1,395,880.44; Milestone Contractors $1,346,233.62; HIS Contractors $1,776,173.00; Pride Excavating $1,362,149.30. “Their total, $1,346,233.62,” staff said when announcing Milestone’s low bid.

Staff said the bridge work will be matched with a Community Crossing grant and that all bid materials must be submitted to the state before March 1 for the county to secure the grant match. The motion to award the contract to Milestone carried on a voice vote; commissioners noted the award is subject to attorney approval.

The county also added a firm completion requirement as an addendum: both bridges must be completed by Aug. 1, 2027. Highway staff told commissioners the deadline responds to contractor availability and attempts to schedule work around school transportation needs. A member of the public, Bill Creech, asked whether the county would impose penalties if contractors missed the completion date; staff answered yes.

Next steps called for staff to finalize paperwork and return to the commissioners with contract documents to sign, and to proceed with the state submission required for the Community Crossing grant.
