At its Feb. 11 meeting the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors issued several proclamations recognizing volunteer and community programs.
The board proclaimed February 2025 as Civil Grand Jury Appreciation Month, thanking grand jurors for oversight work and inviting Gary Cooper and local foreperson Mary Kennedy to accept the recognition.
The board also proclaimed Feb. 11 as 211 Day to honor the Family Resource Center
'11 helpline. County and Family Resource Center speakers said the 211 call center made more than 89,000 client contacts and provided over 90,000 referrals in 2024; a client testimonial described how a single call connected her to services that changed her family's life.
Supervisors recognized Discovery Challenge Academy (DCA), a 22‑week residential program in partnership with the National Guard for 16–18‑year‑olds who are at risk of not graduating high school; County Office of Education leaders provided program statistics including graduation and recidivism‑avoidance claims (DCA reported 1,576 cadets completed the program over eight years and high post‑program engagement).
Supervisor Rickman brought forward a proclamation declaring February National Cancer Prevention Month. A survivor, Jas (Jazz) Singh, shared her experience and urged prevention and regular screening; multiple supervisors responded with personal remarks of support.
Board members used the proclamations ceremony to highlight volunteerism, community services and the county's partnership roles, and encouraged residents to support and learn about these local programs.
