San Joaquin County emphasizes SJ Cares, shelter bed expansions and housing partnerships

San Joaquin County officials used the Sept. 12 State of the County address to highlight new and expanded efforts to address homelessness and housing needs.

Chairman Miguel Villapudua and Supervisor Tom Patty referenced SJCares (a county‑led coordinated response) and described the county’s investments in Project HomeKey and Project RoomKey. The board said it funded emergency shelter capacity increases and supportive housing for people with mental‑health needs; in remarks Supervisor Patty said the board added over 1,000 emergency shelter beds countywide and "doubled our overall capacity."
