Montebello Parks and Recreation Commission appoints members to Special Events and Programs ad hoc committee, approves minutes

The Montebello Parks and Recreation Commission on Feb. 19 voted to appoint two commissioners to a newly combined Special Events and Programs ad hoc committee and approved the Jan. 15, 2026 meeting minutes. Vice Chairperson Jimenez moved to approve the nominations and Chairperson Lovano seconded; a roll-call vote recorded four ayes and one absence, carrying the motion.

Staff told the commission the ad hoc committee was created by merging the previous special events and programs committees to reduce redundancy and to streamline staff and commissioner participation. The staff report cited two vacancies on the new committee and asked commissioners to advise staff and provide feedback at bimonthly committee meetings.

Commissioner Loyola nominated themself to serve on the committee; Commissioner Castaneda also volunteered. After the motion and second, Chairperson Lovano, Vice Chairperson Jimenez, Commissioner Ulloa and Commissioner Castaneda voted "aye." Commissioner Turner was recorded absent.

Separately, commissioners moved and seconded to approve the minutes of the Jan. 15, 2026 meeting. A roll-call vote again recorded four ayes and one absence and the minutes were approved.

The commission concluded the consent portion of the meeting by thanking the volunteers and staff and noting the newly seated committee will report back to the full commission at future meetings.
