Dawson County commissioners approved a package of routine and operational items at a voting session that included grant acceptances, a new alcohol retail license, minor budget amendments and a transit grant application.
The board approved the minutes of its Feb. 5 work and voting sessions (each motion recorded as carrying with three votes in favor and one abstention). The agenda, amended to add the Georgia Department of Transportation FY2026 Transit Trust Fund application, was approved 4-0.
On the consent agenda the board accepted several grants and administrative items. Staff summarized an FY2027 treatment services grant application listed at $415,695 (described in the meeting as a matching grant with state and local shares), a Family Connection 2027 physical agent request (county has served as physical agent since 1999), a Georgia Forestry Commission Volunteer Fire Assistance grant totaling $10,000 (county and state shares noted in the record), and a FY2026 EMS trauma equipment grant for $9,275 with no local match. The board approved the consent agenda 4-0.
The board approved an application from Shell 41 Inc., doing business as Shell Food Mart at 41 Bighorn Drive in Dawsonville, for a package malt-beverage and wine retail license. Licensing staff said the applicant, Maureen Ali, provided the required documentation and passed a criminal-history check; legal counsel Sharika Brown was present. Commissioner Stowers moved to approve the license and Commissioner Bruce seconded; the license was approved 4-0.
In new business, Elections and Registration requested a budget amendment of $11,543 to buy equipment for upcoming elections. Commissioner Bruce moved to approve funding from the general fund; the motion passed 4-0.
The board approved the final plat for the Peaks of Dawsonville and accepted offered dedication of streets for the development by limited warranty deed; both motions passed 4-0. Following the agenda amendment approval, the board approved submitting a GDOT FY2026 Transit Trust Fund application for a new urban-area bus costing $118,996 (no local match; amount includes on-board camera system). Commissioner Gaines moved to approve the application and Commissioner Turcotte seconded; the motion passed 4-0.
No members of the public signed up for additional comment and the board adjourned.
