Kentucky House adopts technical insurance reforms in HB 527 after committee substitute

The Kentucky House on the floor took up and passed House Bill 527, an insurance regulatory bill that the sponsor described as a technical cleanup and modernization effort.

Representative (Gentleman from Taylor), speaking for the committee, said the committee substitute made two changes and “removes language that would have repealed the workers' compensation deductible range.” He said the substitute adopts the NAIC definition of inland marine insurance and clarifies licensing and responsibility requirements for agents, adjusters and others acting on behalf of insurers. The sponsor said an "81‑page" bill allows the Department of Insurance to be efficient, productive and transparent.

Members adopted House Committee Substitute 1 and then voted to pass HB 527 as amended. The clerk recorded the result, and the House declared HB 527, amended by House Committee Substitute 1, passed.
