House passes HB 555 allowing local school boards to accept student-based enterprises and control revenue use

On third reading the Kentucky House passed House Bill 555, described by the sponsor as an amendment to existing statute clarifying how local school boards may handle student‑based enterprises and the revenues they generate.

Speaking for the measure, the gentleman from Taylor explained that HB 555 "clarifies what the role that the local school board has moving forward with the student based enterprises in their district." He described student‑based enterprises as legitimate businesses where students apply, interview and work in ways that simulate the real‑world workforce and said the bill allows local boards to decide whether to accept such enterprises and how funds generated will be spent.

Members moved for passage, and after roll call the clerk recorded that 92 members voted with 1 member voting nay; the bill was declared passed.

The House took no further amendments on the floor and moved to subsequent items; the bill will continue through the legislative process as provided by House rules.
