Superintendent Salas told the board on April 11 that, following a special meeting April 5, the board decided to advertise a provisional appointment to fill the vacant Trustee Area A seat and to require a pool of at least two applicants before making an appointment.
Salas said the district used multiple outreach channels—electronic newsletters to staff and parents, district and school websites with pop-up notices, district Facebook posts and cross-posts to Cypress and La Palma community groups, and city partner postings—to publicize the opening. She reported the district had received one application to date but that applicant did not reside in Trustee Area A and therefore was ineligible.
The superintendent said the application window is open for 17 days and that a non‑quorum committee of two board members will review applications for eligibility. Eligible candidates will be invited to a special meeting for interviews and the full board will deliberate and potentially swear in a provisional appointee that same night. If fewer than two applicants apply, the seat would remain vacant until July when candidates may file to run for the seat.
The board did not discuss specific candidates or schedule the special meeting date during the public session; administration said it will continue posting updates in Friday reports and on district channels.
