Host opened the weekly city update and outlined several community programs and communication upgrades. The city is promoting an Inclusive Sports Sampler for youth ages 8 and up, offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the spring from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the community center, with a flyer and QR code available for registration. "This is something that the community center has been working on and continues to develop," the Host said.
The city is also recruiting summer day-camp instructors for roles including game leaders and craft supervisors. Training is scheduled June 1–15 and camps are set to run June 8–Aug. 7 with no camp the week of June 29. The Host said full-time seasonal positions are available (40 hours per week) and that supervisors prefer applicants with a high-school diploma and experience working with children.
On events, the Host encouraged families to attend Family Jam on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 5–7 p.m. at the community center featuring Rockin' Reggie; tickets are available at the community center. The update also noted an on-campus Ohio University observance for the university's 220th birthday and related activities.
The city announced an expansion of its government-channel programming. "Live TV meetings, in house production content on Roku, Amazon Fire, TV devices, as well as through the new mobile app," the Host said, inviting viewers to search for Athens, Ohio streaming media or the Athens, Ohio TGC video feed and to download the CitySource app on Google Play or the Apple App Store.
For day-to-day alerts, the Host and Weather presenter directed residents to the CitySource app and to sign up for Nixle alerts. The Host read an on-air shortcode that appeared garbled in the transcript; organizers should consult official city channels for the correct sign-up steps.
The update closed with reminders about upcoming local meetings, including the Disabilities Commission and the Shade Tree Commission.
