Alan Dutton, chair of the Oak Hills Park Authority, announced on Feb. 19 that the authority has hired Nick Novak as head golf professional at Oak Hills Park, and that Novak will start on March 2. "We have hired Nick Novak to be our golf professional at Oak Hills Park, and he will start on March 2," Dutton said during the authority's reports.
The appointment followed a multi-member search committee that reviewed nine candidates and narrowed the field to two. Dutton thanked the search committee and named members who participated in the process, including Steve Shepherd, Jim Holliday, Mark Gartner, Charlie Brennan, Mary Anne Capiello and Chris Christian DeAndrew.
General Manager Jim Holliday said Novak plans to expand programming and convert the old pro shop into a teaching facility that could include simulators and a putting studio. Holliday said Novak has a background in instruction and has developed teaching facilities previously. "He's got some pretty grand ideas about turning the old pro shop into a legitimate, teaching facility, with simulators," Holliday said.
The authority said onboarding is underway and Novak will appear on the authority's March agenda with a formal professional report. There was no public discussion of employment terms or salary in the meeting record.
