Committee approves bill eliminating requirement to supply magistrates hard copies of West Virginia Code

Legislative Counsel told the committee that Senate Bill 792 would "eliminate the statutory requirement that the administrative director of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia supply hard copies of the West Virginia code to each magistrate." Counsel told members that the Supreme Court indicated passage "would save the court $313,000." After no amendments or further questions, the Vice Chair moved the bill be reported to the full Senate with a recommendation that it pass; the motion carried by voice vote and the bill will be sent to the Senate floor for further consideration.

The committee did not request additional fiscal analysis beyond the court's stated savings in the testimony provided in committee.
