Mantua council to study Zoom security and begin drafting 10-year vision

Mantua Town Council members asked staff to study remote-access options and security before expanding Zoom participation, and they agreed to hold quarterly working sessions to develop a 10-year town vision and performance dashboard.

Speaker 4 warned of past security problems with remote platforms, saying, “And all of a sudden, things start getting played and you're they've taken over the meeting.” Speaker 3 and others responded that staff should examine configuration options (such as meeting codes) and operational requirements before adopting Zoom for routine meetings.

Speaker 2 reminded the council that virtual participation is governed by public‑meeting rules and that an anchor location with staff on site is required for online access. Members agreed Zoom could be used to provide public access but should not replace in-person attendance.

On vision and planning, Speaker 3 presented a proposed 10-year vision and suggested adapting a performance dashboard based on the OKR (objectives and key results) model. The speaker referenced Crossing the Chasm as a model for thinking about strategic objectives and asked members to review a draft before the next working meeting.

Next steps: staff will evaluate Zoom security and procedural constraints and return with recommendations. Council members will review the vision/OKR draft ahead of the next quarterly working session and come prepared to edit or present alternative proposals.
