Commission approves full property tax relief for family after recent tragedy in Hope

The Dickinson County Commission voted to grant real property tax relief for the 2026 tax year on a parcel at 15031400 Avenue in Hope after staff confirmed the application met statutory requirements tied to a recent family tragedy.

A commissioner moved to approve the relief and a second followed; the motion was carried by voice vote. County staff explained the statutory application process requires documentation to the appraiser's office and verification of qualifying losses, and said the family qualifies under the existing statute.

"By statute... with the loss, they certainly do qualify," a county official said while recommending approval. The commission's action formalized the administrative determination and authorized the statutory relief for the property for 2026.

The motion was recorded as passing by voice vote with "Aye" and "Motion carries," but no recorded roll-call tally appears in the minutes. Staff indicated the relief will be processed through the appraiser's office per state procedure.
