The Village of Lakemore council voted to repeal a 2025 local ordinance that had placed restrictions on use of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides near waterways, saying the Ohio Department of Agriculture identified conflicts with cited portions of the Ohio Revised Code (transcript references sections 921.26 and 905.503). The repeal was presented as Ordinance 19-22-2026 and was declared an emergency measure so it could take effect immediately.
During discussion the acting council officer told residents that while the village cannot enforce the prior local restrictions due to the cited state-law conflicts, residents were encouraged to use best practices to protect Springfield Lake and local water quality. The acting officer noted recent attention to chemical risks and referenced a large civil settlement related to a pesticide maker, urging diligence in avoiding pollution.
Council also moved to adopt Resolution 7550-2026, authorizing assistant fire chiefs to apply for the 2026 State of Ohio Emergency Medical Supplies Grant; the grant was described on the record as reimbursable. Additionally, the council adopted Resolution 7551-2026 accepting the resignation of David Phillips as a part-time firefighter medic and thanked him for his service.
Each of these measures was presented with the standard open-meeting language and emergency clauses that were read into the record. Council completed the items with motions and recorded assent during roll-call.
