St. Johns County and fire department officials dedicated a new memorial honoring firefighters who died in the line of duty and unveiled the department’s 911 Memorial tree during a public ceremony.
“Our Memorial will be forever hallowed ground, a place to come to remember, to reflect and to heal,” a fire department representative said as they described the memorial’s purpose and thanked families and staff who helped realize the project. Presenters said the project broke ground on May 15, 2024, and reached completion approximately a year and a half later.
Speakers emphasized the memorial’s role in departmental culture and public remembrance, saying the dedication recognizes service and sacrifice while aiming to inspire current and future personnel. County staff assisted with preservation measures during the installation and highlighted the memorial’s role in community healing.
The dedication was ceremonial; no new policy or budget action was announced at the event. County representatives asked families and community members to use the memorial as a site of remembrance and encouraged ongoing department support.
