Councilor Rita Mercia told the Lowell City Council she experienced a fast, effective response from Lowell City’s Water Department after discovering a leaking water meter on Super Bowl Sunday. She said she called in the morning and was "pleasantly greeted" by Water Department staff, who promised someone would arrive within an hour.
Mercia said a technician named Scott "arrived within the hour," brought the necessary equipment and "replaced some pots," after which "all was fine." Because the technician had to shut off the water, Mercia said he "gently turned all my faucets to a very slow stream, so as not to damage any pipes from the high water pressure in our area."
She described the service as "better than any private contractor or service person" she has dealt with and offered "kudos to the city of Lowell Water Department, especially Kelly and Scott." Mercia added that she is often quick to complain, but that this instance merited public praise.
No formal action or vote followed the comment. The council heard the statement as part of public comments and did not record any requests for follow-up or policy changes related to the incident.
