The United Nations reported several operational and funding updates across humanitarian and peacebuilding efforts.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the UN peacekeeping mission is supporting the Congolese government to strengthen the judicial system, including the deployment of mobile courts in Aru Prison (Ituri province) to facilitate hearings for more than 100 pre‑trial detainees who have been held since the state of siege in 2022. The mission is also facilitating digitization of military judicial data to improve transparency and case handling, the spokesperson said.
The Peacebuilding Fund has allocated $2,500,000 for a roughly 20‑month initiative in Togo’s northern Savannah region to support peaceful relations, community dialogue, natural resource dispute prevention and socioeconomic resilience for vulnerable groups, including women and youth. The project will be implemented by FAO, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and UNDP, according to the spokesperson.
Separately, the IOM welcomed the launch of a new global shelter, land and site coordination cluster that it co‑leads with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. IOM said the new approach aims to simplify coordination, reduce duplication and deliver faster, fairer and more accountable responses for people affected by crises and displacement.
The UN framed these items as part of continued efforts to strengthen justice, stabilization and humanitarian coordination in fragile contexts.
