The Knoxville Beer Board took a series of routine licensing and event decisions on Feb. 17, approving special events, granting extensions and postponing several permit applications for further documentation or appearance.
Special-event approvals included Dragonfly’s 15th‑anniversary gala (applicant Heather Quincy said the event is March 7 and supports scholarships), the East Tennessee Kidney Foundation’s Shamrock Fest, Oasis’s thaw‑out event, Trees Knoxville’s TreeFest (April 24 at Baker Creek Preserve), and the Young‑Williams Animal Center Mardi Gras pet parade and festival (parade step-off at Covenant Health Stadium; festival 11 a.m.–3 p.m.). Each event was cleared after staff confirmed no record issues or as approved pending final documentation.
On regular permits, the board approved multiple applicants “pending final documentation,” meaning required items (sales tax registration, certificate of occupancy, health-department approval, TAPC liquor license, or Department of Agriculture approval in one case) must be submitted before final issuance. Applicants approved pending documentation included 808 Music Group (Brian Coakley), Big Orange Bar (Sam Giovanni), Gen Z (Gary Patel) — pending Department of Agriculture approval — and Miguel Nunez (4505 Asheville Highway). The clerk and Mr. Berg enumerated the specific documents still due for each file.
The board also handled requests for extensions. Ian’s Market (Begani) asked for a 90‑day extension because the owner was delayed at another store; the board extended the application to the May meeting. Brooke Martin (STEM to STEM, North Central) received an extension to May after pausing work following a family bereavement; staff reported submitted plans had been reviewed and she may pick up a permit sooner if requirements are met.
Yeehaw Brewing did not have representatives present. Board staff discussed whether approval could be granted pending surrender of an existing permit or whether postponement was more appropriate. The board moved to consolidate Yeehaw’s three items and postponed all to the March meeting.
In each case where the board approved “pending final documentation,” staff instructed applicants to deliver required paperwork to the business tax office during business hours. The board recorded votes as affirmative on the listed motions and set follow-up items for March and May agendas where appropriate.
