Montgomery County’s Department of Recreation and community outreach manager Mónica Hammer described several upcoming programs during the county’s Spanish‑language broadcast: a prom‑dress and formalwear donation drive and the start of spring program registrations.
Hammer said donations are being accepted now at Prazner Recreation Center through Saturday, Feb. 28, with a special collection event Saturday, Feb. 21 at Janey Lawn. The distribution event will be Saturday, April 4, at Marilyn J. Prazner Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; students do not need to register but must bring school identification.
The program typically serves about 100 students; Hammer said the department hopes to collect several hundred items so attendees have many options. She noted donations may include shoes, jewelry and accessories in good condition.
On recreation programs, Hammer said most spring registrations open Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 a.m. for county residents. Senior programs such as Bone Builders will open later that morning; participants are advised to create or update ActiveMontgomery accounts in advance and may register in person at the Wheaton administrative office or early at select aquatic centers. The department’s customer service number is 240‑777‑6840.
Hammer also described an assistance program (referred in the broadcast as 'Recasist') that provides up to $400 per qualifying eligible family member toward program fees; recipients are expected to cover 20% of the remaining cost. Details and eligibility are available on the department website.
