Planning Department staff presented the department’s 2025 annual report to the Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety on Feb. 18, 2026, highlighting permit activity, rezonings and several grant-funded projects.
Staff reported caseloads and outcomes: in Logansport there were 31 cases with 27 approved, 3 denied and 1 continued; in Cass County there were 59 unsafe cases (40 cleared) and 23 VZA cases in Cass County with 21 approvals, 1 denial and 1 withdrawal. The report listed two minor subdivisions in Logansport (Eastgate Minor Subdivision and Market Street Subdivision) and noted downtown had 11 approved cases. Planning staff said improvement location permits for Logansport in 2025 were reported with a total value of $34,915,490.
The department summarized ordinance updates (mobile vendor changes and rezonings on Banks, Chase and Davis), comprehensive plan amendments including additions for Aim High Park and the Chase and Davis plan, and partnerships with the City Redevelopment Commission on appraisals, land acquisition and tax-exemption paperwork. Special projects noted included work on the Iron Horse Park splash pad (completed with Ready! funds), involvement in the Rural Empowerment and Development Program awarded to Cass County, and engagement in the Safe Streets for All process.
Staff also said the department is implementing new permitting software (OpenGov) to streamline permitting and increase public ease of use, and described ongoing capital improvement planning for a four-to-five year horizon. After the presentation a motion to approve the Planning Department’s 2025 annual report was moved, seconded and approved by the board.
Board members and staff will track action items including correcting the budget-year notation for a contractor agreement and continuing to implement software and capital improvements.
