Jan, representing the parks department, presented the department’s January 2026 report to the Board of Public Works and Safety on Feb. 18. The report highlighted events, equipment and staffing changes and noted several near-term items for residents and event organizers.
Jan said the city will begin centennial celebrations for Dyckman on March 5 with Business After Hours and a ribbon-cutting for the clubhouse. Parks staff secured July 9 for a major golf outing with guest of honor Ted Bishop, and plans for July 4 include a headlining concert by Grace Scott and additional performances by Counterpoint. Trail cameras are installed and operating at Little Turtle Trail and Houston Trail, and parks staff confirmed they are visible to the public.
Capital and operations updates included delivery of a Go Bond-funded backhoe and an ordered tractor/mower system; continued work on the Spencer Park pedestrian crossing; additional picnic tables and furnishings delivered to neighborhood parks; and completion of the Iron Horse Park splash pad with ready funds. Jan also said the department is piloting weekly department representation at the Farmers Market and reported Zumba and community events have drawn steady participation. Dave Smith was hired as a part-time sports manager, and staff discussed collaborations with Logansport Police Department on event emergency preparations.
The board moved to approve the parks department’s monthly/planter report and the motion passed by recorded votes.
