Tom Rose, public works director for the town of Smyrna, gave a short update on several local road projects, saying crews completed a stormwater pipe at the Sam Ridley Parkway and Old Nashville Highway intersection and that other work will cause temporary lane restrictions across town.
The update centered on a recently installed stormwater pipe on the north side of the Sam Ridley Parkway–Old Nashville Highway intersection. "This improvement should significantly help reduce flooding in the slip lane in the northeast corner," Rose said, adding the work is intended to reduce recurring ponding that affects that turning lane.
Rose also warned that the slip lane in the northwest corner of the same intersection "will be closed, during daytime hours for some utility connections," and asked drivers to "plan accordingly and use caution in that area." The town did not provide specific start or end dates for that daytime closure.
On Bolton Drive, Rose said the town's contractor will begin milling and resurfacing work soon. He said the project is intended to "improve the road surface and overall driving conditions," and that motorists should expect signage and possible temporary lane restrictions while the work is underway.
Rose described ongoing work on Rock Springs Road, where a contractor has a single lane closed near Waldron Road for bridge repairs and guardrail installation. "Crews are making good progress, but expect the single lane setup to continue until the work is complete," he said, urging drivers to slow down and follow traffic controls.
For the latest information on these and other projects, Rose directed residents to townofsmyrna.org's projects page and interactive project map and invited questions to the public works department. "Thanks again for your patience as we work to keep Smyrna's infrastructure in top shape," he said.
