Beautification committee announces countywide cleanup April 25, offers small donations to clubs

The Pittsylvania County Beautification Committee presented plans for a semi-annual countywide cleanup on April 25 and requested the board’s support at the Feb. 17 work session.

Evelyn Davis, a member of the county committee representing the Banister District, asked supervisors to display provided signs in their districts and to encourage high-school clubs and scouting groups to participate. The committee said it will offer up to seven $100 donations (with at least 10 participants per group) and that the funds would come from the state literary fund; Davis explicitly said the committee was not requesting county funds for the program.

Davis said the committee will vet participating groups and present donations upon verification of service. The board received the update and members posed no substantive objections; supervisors joined the committee at the front of the room for a sign photo at the end of the presentation.

The committee’s outreach will include contacting high-school clubs and scouting organizations to recruit volunteers and to distribute donation guidelines.
