The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety on Feb. 18 approved a contract with Butler Fairman Seaport to develop a corridor plan for Summit Street from Beacon Hill Drive to the city’s western limit.
Jake Devereaux and Anthony described the professional services scope: a truck-mounted lidar survey, on-the-ground topographic work for a key segment, environmental red-flag investigations, utility coordination, property-line determinations, intersection capacity and safety analysis, traffic modeling of alternatives, and public meetings over an expected 10-month effort. Jake said the plan would produce options and full cost estimates for segmented projects the city could pursue.
Anthony and Jake emphasized sequencing and phased work so improvements do not create downstream problems; Jake said the study "will go all the way to the western limit of the city" and will help the city apply for federal funds. A staff speaker noted that federal funding typically covers about 80% for qualifying projects.
The board moved and approved the contract and directed staff to proceed with the study and public outreach.
