The Borger City Council voted to approve resolution R-005-26 authorizing execution of an updated municipal maintenance agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation.
Bradley introduced the agreement and noted the city’s last formal municipal maintenance agreement with TxDOT dated to 1964. He said the current updates are largely clarifying language and reflect changes statewide as road segments are removed from the state system and returned to local control.
One substantive change cited was a shift in responsibility for certain signs on adjoining streets. Bradley said TxDOT staff indicated they would continue to replace stop signs if the city requested it, but the agreement’s wording assigns those responsibilities more clearly to local authorities when roads are relinquished. He also noted that TxDOT provided funds (used to offset reconstruction on 10th Street) tied to the relinquishment process.
Council approved the resolution on a motion; no council member requested additional amendments during the meeting.
The agreement gives the city fuller control over streets removed from the state system while maintaining practical cooperation with TxDOT on replacements and maintenance as needed.
