FREMONT COUNTY, Wyo. — The Fremont County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 17 to transfer $208,000 from the county cash reserve to the Fremont County Fair budget.
Finance staff explained the money had been included in the fair's budget for prior and current fiscal years but was never moved into the fair fund due to a coding error in the county's budgeting system. County staff said $128,000 was carried in 24-25 and $80,000 was included for the 25-26 fiscal year; the total transfer discussed was $208,000 under Resolution 2026-08.
Commissioner (unnamed) moved to approve the resolution; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. County staff confirmed restrictions on the grant and budget use (security/evidence-related uses for specified funds were noted).
The resolution was introduced during the public meeting portion; staff said the fair board had been informed the previous week and the transfer aligns the county's bookkeeping with previously approved budgets.
What happens next: Finance will record the transfer from the cash reserve to the Fremont County Fair budget and staff will report back if any additional adjustments are needed to align spending with the fair's planned operations.
