At the Feb. 17 meeting commissioners endorsed a Blue Zones Phase 1 letter of support for Healthy Fayette County, approved forwarding an animal shelter donation transfer request to county council, and approved routine contract extensions and payroll.
Linda (Speaker 13) asked for a letter of support for Healthy Fayette County’s Blue Zones Phase 1 initiative. She said the group seeks grant funding (including a $50,000 grant application) and expects phase‑1 costs to be between $105,000 and $120,000; she emphasized they were not asking the county or city for funds at this time. Commissioners voted to endorse the letter.
Speaker 10 asked permission to move $30,000 from donations to veterinary and shelter needs and the commissioners moved to send a recommendation to county council to appropriate the funds. The Sheriff (Speaker 9) recommended replacing two separate dumpster contracts with a larger dumpster from Rumpke to save an estimated $150–$250 per month; the board approved cancelling the CGS contract when it expires and switching to Rumpke. Commissioners also approved extending Jay McAtee’s mowing contract for another year and approved routine payroll.
Speaker 5 offered congratulations to the Connersville girls basketball team (Spartans) and the board adjourned by unanimous voice vote.
Next steps: staff will forward the shelter funding request to county council with the board’s recommendation, execute the dumpster contract change when the current contract allows, and process the mowing contract extension.
