Board of DD asks commissioners to proclaim March as DD Awareness Month, invites them to chili fest

LAWRENCE COUNTY — Julie Monroe, representing the Board of Developmental Disabilities, asked the Lawrence County commissioners on Feb. 17 to declare March as Developmental Disabilities (DD) Awareness Month and said the board would provide proclamation language at the first March meeting.

Monroe told the commissioners that the board had circulated flyers and details and asked that the proclamation be placed on the March 3 agenda. "I sent all the information, the flyers about where you all designate March as DD awareness month," Monroe said, adding that the board planned a kickoff at the March 3 meeting and that a chili fest was scheduled around March 14 (dates to be confirmed).

She invited commissioners to attend or judge the chili fest and asked for a group photo when the proclamation is presented. The commissioners acknowledged the request and said they would consider it; Monroe said she would confirm final dates for the chili fest.
