A notice on the City of Santa Monica website says crews have temporarily closed the Muma Tahika Way off-ramp on the southbound Pacific Coast Highway through Feb. 27 to allow work on the new Santa Monica Pier bridge. The two-week closure is intended to make way for foundation work on a temporary pedestrian bridge that will preserve access to the pier during longer-term construction.
The notice directs southbound drivers on PCH to turn left onto the California Incline to reach Ocean Avenue or to continue to Interstate 10 and exit at Lincoln Avenue to access downtown and the beach. City contractors are also building temporary vehicle ramps to maintain access to pier parking and attractions, the notice says.
Cyclists should expect temporary closures and lane reductions on the Marvin Braude Bike Trail near the site, with posted detours around the construction zone. The notice adds that access to the pier and pier businesses will remain open for the duration of the work and urges travelers to plan ahead and follow posted detours.
For updates and maps of the detours, the notice directs the public to santamonica.gov/pierbridge. The temporary closure is scheduled through Feb. 27; the city’s website will carry any changes to that timeframe.
