The Houston County Commission voted on Feb. 17 on a highway-department request to partially close Marybeth Hollow Road and the motion failed after repeated objections from landowners.
A resident who owns property on the road spoke in opposition, warning the commission that a closure could expose the county to lawsuits and cause property devaluation. County staff and commissioners noted that closures normally require all landowner sign-off and that the item remained on the agenda after paperwork confusion.
The commission conducted a roll-call vote. Several named commissioners voted "No"; one commissioner voted "Yes." The chair announced the motion failed and the road closure will not proceed. Commissioners did not adopt an alternative plan at the meeting.
No formal appeal or further action was recorded; staff and commissioners discussed the procedural requirement for landowner signatures and said the issue could be revisited if the required sign-offs are obtained.
