The Mobile City Council pre-meeting on Feb. 18 included announcement of upcoming public hearings and presentation of petitions.
Administration said a public hearing will consider a modification of a previously approved planned unit development at 580 Providence Park Drive East and a rezoning hearing for property at 7211 and 7221 Cottage Hill Road from R-1 to R-3. Administration also listed several petitioners expected to address the council, including Robert Clopton (on the 100th anniversary of Black History Month and NAACP), Jessica Walker (raising concerns about lack of police response and intervention regarding criminal activity), John Paul Sylvester (proposal of a new city flag), Frederick Richardson (proposed ordinance change identified as 02015 concerning language on official forms), and Reggie Hill (proposal summaries for economic development, public safety, and budget amendments).
Administration introduced a resolution to appoint Quincy Curley to the History Museum of Mobile board and numerous consent and procurement items to appear on the regular agenda. A council member asked administration to ensure a public-safety representative would be available to respond to Jessica Walker's concerns; administration confirmed staff would be provided.
These matters were presented for public hearing or first reading; the pre-meeting transcript records announcements and requests for staff participation but does not record public testimony or final votes.
