Calimesa council approves consent calendar, waives full reading of zone-text amendment ordinance

The Calimesa City Council approved its consent calendar and waived the full reading of an ordinance that updates multiple chapters of the city zoning code at its Feb. 17 regular meeting.

Councilmember Molina moved to approve the consent calendar, including item 6, and the motion was adopted by the council with the mayor announcing, “All of our consent items have passed,” by a 3–0 vote. The council’s action included waiving the full reading of Ordinance No. 419.

City counsel read the full title of Ordinance No. 419 into the record, describing it as “an ordinance of the City of Calimesa adopting zone text amendment number 25‑01, amending chapters 17.15, 18.1, 18.15, 18.2, 18.25, 18.28, 18.35, 18.39, 18.4, 18.45, and 18.125 of the Calimesa Municipal Code to implement a suite of actions identified in the city’s housing element.” Counsel also stated the ordinance is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) under the exemptions noted in the reading.

The council did not take additional public testimony on the ordinance during the consent vote. The mayor confirmed the motion and recorded the 3–0 tally; no roll-call dissent or abstentions were recorded on the consent calendar.

Next procedural steps: the council’s action waived full reading as permitted and left the ordinance on the formal agenda for its second-reading procedural steps (as listed in the agenda packet). Additional hearings, findings or ministerial steps required for final adoption were not changed by the consent vote announced at the meeting.
