Commissioner Blake placed a resolution in the form of a motion supporting the Tennessee Waste 2 Jobs Act currently pending before the Tennessee General Assembly. Blake read figures and findings into the record, including a statement that approximately "1,417,538 tons of discarded materials and products are currently sent to the disposal from our county each year based on a 5 year average" and that only about 12% of recyclable packaging is recycled in the state.
"Mr. Chairman, I put this resolution in form of motion," Blake said. Commissioner Rogers seconded the motion. After brief formalities and no discussion, the commission approved the resolution by roll call, 14 in favor and none opposed.
The resolution expresses the commission's support for state legislation intended to improve recycling infrastructure and markets and to reduce landfill disposal. The resolution text was available to commissioners in the agenda packet and on the county Google Drive. The commission did not attach county implementation measures or an estimated fiscal impact in the meeting record.
