EMS committee reports 26,887 calls in 2025 and discusses fleet additions

Commissioner Rogers reported out of the EMS committee that Director Lewis provided a comprehensive update: the EMS department responded to 26,887 calls in 2025, operates with 67 full‑time and 43 part‑time employees and a fleet of 14 vehicles, and collected more than $6,000,000 in fiscal year 2024 and 2025. The committee noted this was the first time the department exceeded its budget projections and that it is on track to surpass projections again.

The committee discussed the potential addition of one or two vans in fiscal years 2026 and 2027 to handle convalescent calls; commissioners said these additions would generate additional revenue for the department. The EMS committee plans to meet again ahead of budget discussions and will update the commission with scheduling.
