Chair Pro Tem Jason Snyder and Commissioner Therese told the Washington County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday that the pair will lead coordinated outreach to county mayors about a proposed vehicle registration fee. The presentations are intended as early communications to explain the board's approach and gather feedback before wider public engagement.
The two commissioners said they divided the county's mayors by district so each mayor receives consistent messaging. "This is our proposal and to get feedback at that time," Commissioner Therese said, describing the outreach as an "early communication" step. Snyder asked staff to circulate draft talking points to the full commission once they are ready so other commissioners can give input and be prepared to answer questions in their own districts.
Staff told the board that initial drafts were not yet ready but that the commission would be notified when the communication plan and messaging points could be released for review. Snyder and Therese said they expect the mayoral meetings to occur no later than the first week of March and asked that any finalized materials be shared with the full board to keep the outreach consistent.
The announcement drew procedural questions about who would brief which mayors; commissioners said they had already split responsibilities and that Snyder would support follow-up conversations as needed. No formal action was taken; the update was informational. The matter will return to the board as communications products are finalized for broader distribution.
