The Village of Weston Board of Trustees voted Feb. 16 to adopt an ordinance amending subdivision street dimensional standards to allow limited cul-de-sac exceptions when topographic or environmental constraints prevent reasonable street connectivity.
The amendment, described by a village representative during the public hearing, was intended to clarify the village’s existing cul-de-sac standards. "This amendment clarifies the village's cul de sac standards," the presenter said, noting the change preserves the village preference for interconnected streets while adding a narrowly constrained exception that requires public works review and plan commission approval and prevents approvals granted solely for development convenience.
The board acknowledged Plan Commission resolution 2026-PC-001 recommending the change, then moved to approve ordinance 26-002 (amending section 74.6.0.06 of the subdivision ordinance). Trustees asked for confirmation that the amendment applies only to cul-de-sacs and does not alter street width standards; staff and trustees said it does not.
The motion to approve the ordinance was carried by voice vote.
The ordinance follows review and recommendation by the Plan Commission and the extraterritorial zoning (ETZ) body. The change is intended to align the municipal code with recent development review practice when environmental or topographic constraints have made connectivity impracticable.
