The Village of Weston Board of Trustees on Feb. 16 approved a contract to replace four pumps and associated plumbing at the village aquatic center and authorized an electrical allowance for the work.
Parks & Recreation staff presented two proposals: a base contract and an optional upgrade to add variable frequency drives (VFDs) to all four pumps. Staff recommended installing a VFD only on the main pump because the three slide/activity pumps run far fewer hours and the electricity-payback period for additional VFDs would approach the pool’s life expectancy.
Staff told the board the existing pumps are no longer serviceable because parts are unavailable for the Aurora 341A pumps originally installed; replacements require new motor mounts and plumbing changes. "The pumps we currently have cannot be serviced… they no longer manufacture them," staff said.
Trustee Zagami moved to approve the quoted base contract and an additional allowance for electrical work; Trustee Kern seconded. The motion passed by voice vote. The contract amount recorded in the meeting discussion is quoted as $1,428,446 plus an additional $15,890 for electrical work. Staff said Newman Pools (the original builder) supplied the quote and is familiar with the facility.
Trustees also discussed procurement (one bid received, limited pool contractors in state) and insurance coverage for contractors; staff confirmed the contractor carries insurance.
