During routine business the board approved several noncontroversial items and took ministerial actions.
Library grant: Philip (library staff) requested acceptance of a State Library grant of $57,920 for digital-literacy and digital-art kits (iPad Pro kits) for county libraries, expanding programming in central and eastern parts of the county. The board approved acceptance of the funding (motion by Commissioner Susina).
Water-main update: Jonathan (public-works staff) briefed the board on the East Lincoln Highway 150 water-main improvement project, which addresses aging parallel mains (two 6-inch lines and a 12-inch main). He said the project has cleared DWI and DEQ reviews, is state-funded for $1,073,316 and is expected to go to bid with a notice of award planned by March.
Vacancies and appointments: Commissioner Mullen moved to appoint Gene Derby to the Historic Preservation Commission; the motion passed with aye votes.
Transportation agreement: Separately the board adopted an interlocal transportation resolution between the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Lincolnton (presented by the county attorney) clarifying responsibilities for transporting involuntary-commitment individuals within and outside city limits; the city will also be asked to adopt the agreement on its agenda.
The board took a brief recess and later returned from closed session to report no action taken on the contract discussed in closed session before adjourning.
