CEMW proposes fall joint workshop with California Wetland Monitoring Work Group

Co‑chairs proposed a joint in‑person fall meeting (Sacramento) between the California Estuary Monitoring Work Group and the California Wetland Monitoring Work Group to workshop how monitoring products and cleared datasets can support management decisions, 305(b) reporting, and performance standards. Jan outlined draft objectives: identify desired outcomes, select a state location, and determine targeted participants to improve capacity among both networks.

Attendees discussed timing and logistics. Several participants favored September (citing summer vacations and improved attendance for government staff) and suggested September 11 as a possible date; others flagged travel restrictions that could limit state employee travel unless the meeting is in Sacramento, and requested a virtual participation option. Co‑chairs agreed to develop a specific agenda and targeted invite list and to follow up by email. The meeting will include case studies and a focus on how regional monitoring can inform grant priorities and management actions.
