UDOT Region 3 outlines completed and upcoming projects in Spanish Fork area, and Northwest Utah County program updates

UDOT Region 3 staff and program managers used the Aug. 12 Transportation Commission meeting to walk commissioners through current and planned projects in southern Utah County and northwest Utah County.

Andrew Gwynn, Region 3 program manager, summarized 14 highlighted projects: US‑6 through Spanish Fork was widened with dual left‑turn lanes at Canyon Creek Parkway and Expressway Lane to improve traffic flow; an environmental assessment for a new Center Street interchange recommends an interchange and anticipates UTA station connections; a median‑barrier installation in Spanish Fork Canyon (Diamond Fork to Thistle Junction) is slated to start within weeks and finish by year end to reduce crossover accidents; the Dry Creek Park interchange (Springville‑Spanish Fork) will add ramps and widen Dry Creek Parkway to five lanes in phases; US‑6 widening (MP 194–197) will add five lanes and median barrier with work starting in fall and continuing into next year; and a planned grade‑separated US‑6/US‑89 interchange aimed at reducing a history of fatalities is in design with advertising expected early next year and construction into 2027.

Andrew Jordan, project director for the Northwest Utah County program, reported that the Mountain View Corridor project (2100 North to Porter Rockwell) is at or ahead of schedule with structures being set and paving ongoing, while the Pioneer Crossing Flex Lanes project has been awarded and will begin construction after Labor Day with completion expected next fall. Jordan said procurement for the 2100 North freeway connection is in final stages, with contractor selection planned for Oct. 1 and construction expected to begin at the start of the year.

Brandon Weston briefed commissioners on the Northern Utah County PEL study, describing the PEL approach to link corridor planning to environmental review and specifically noting study elements that will consider crossing Utah Lake and North Lakeshore facility feasibility. Weston said the team expects to begin work in November after procurement.

Commissioners praised the regional partnerships and took questions on schedules and staging. Staff said the projects are closely coordinated with local cities, UTA, and the Commission’s funding decisions.
