Sheriff Shipper seeks grant for ballistic shields; commissioners approve application

Sheriff Shipper (Speaker 8) told the commissioners he needed court approval to apply for "Grant number 5840609 from the personal justice division of the Texas governor's office" to purchase ballistic shields and vehicle panels for patrol vehicles.

"Just to allow me to go out for a grant for ballistic shields and panels for vehicles," Sheriff Shipper said on the record, asking for the court's approval to pursue the funding. Speaker 3 moved to approve the application and Speaker 2 seconded; Speaker 2 later stated, "Motion carried."

The court did not discuss grant match requirements or a procurement plan for equipment at the time of the vote. Sheriff Shipper's request and the court's approval allow the sheriff's office to submit the grant application and seek funding for protective equipment.
