During a Feb. 16, 2026 meeting, the Buncombe County Board of Equalization and Review approved several routine administrative items, including prior meeting minutes and a list of late exemption requests recommended by county staff.
A motion to approve the minutes was made and carried without recorded opposition. The board then considered a list described by staff as “about 20” late exemptions, covering categories that included disabled-veteran exemptions, elderly exemptions, houses of worship exemptions, disability exemptions and a circuit-breaker-style application. A board member moved to approve the exemptions as presented; the motion passed with no recorded opposition.
Board members and staff also used the meeting to announce operational items: the formal notice-of-value period will open, notices of value will begin rolling out the week following the meeting with an aim to complete that process by March, and instructions for appealing notices will be posted on the county website. The board discussed scheduling a reappraisal briefing/training in May and identified some individual scheduling conflicts for early April dates. The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn.
