The Natchitoches Historic District Commission approved a phase-one signage package for the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame at 500 Front Street, accepting a freestanding illuminated metal sign intended to provide a pedestrian photo opportunity and clearer identification for vehicular traffic.
A representative of the Louisiana Sports Hall Foundation told the commission the project team (Advent, Nashville) will handle material durability concerns and that the sign’s inset panels will display inductees’ hometowns, alma maters and sports fields rather than individual inductee names, because the sign is intended to be a long-term public marker. Commissioners asked whether the sign would be attached to the building; the applicant confirmed it will be freestanding on a concrete base and illuminated by sidewalk and overhead lighting.
Commissioner Krasnow moved to approve the application as presented; Commissioner Salter seconded. Chair identified a potential conflict of interest due to board membership on the foundation and recused from participation on that item. The motion carried on a voice vote. The applicant said phase-one installation aims to be complete in time for June events and that additional interior elements will follow later phases of the project.
