The Natchitoches Historic District Commission approved Maglio’s application to relocate an outdoor walk-in cooler to the side of the building at 805 Washington, but the approval was amended to require a screening plan. The amendment — moved by a commissioner — required a fence across the area between the dumpster and the cooler and recommended shrubbery or large planters to conceal the equipment from public view. The amended application passed on a voice vote.
Applicant (Maglio’s representative) said the current cooler sits in the middle of a concrete area; the new configuration would place the freezer up against the building, accessed by a side door. Commissioners and staff discussed sightlines from the road and the possibility that the dumpster could be moved in the future; the commission advised designing the screening so it remains effective if elements shift on site. The applicant also noted a tankless water heater will be installed behind the cooler; the applicant is awaiting fire marshal review.
A motion was made to amend the application to include a fence and screening requirement; the amendment passed and the commission then approved the application as amended. The applicant said staff will follow up on final details and the fire marshal review.
