UN announces senior human-rights appointments and two resident coordinators

The UN announced several senior personnel changes, the spokesperson said. Awa Dabo of The Gambia was appointed deputy high commissioner for human rights, succeeding Nada Al-Nashif. Claudia Fuentes Giulio of Chile was appointed assistant secretary-general for human rights and head of the UN human rights office in New York, succeeding the outgoing official from Latvia. The spokesperson described both appointees as bringing extensive experience in human rights, multilateral diplomacy and development and said biographies are available online.

The secretary-general also appointed Amanda Kozi Mukwashi of Zambia as resident coordinator in Angola and Allegra Maria del Pilar Baiocchi of Italy as resident coordinator in Mexico; both took up their posts on Feb. 15, the spokesperson said.
